Wire mesh radiator covers prevent physical contact by encapsulating the radiator with a metal grille barrier that does not hold heat so is safe to touch.

The rate of circulation (over 80% of hot air movement) compares very favourably with a wooden radiator cover, MDF radiator grilles and costly, restrictive sheet metal guards.
